FLY DESIGNER
Trey Combs
Trey Combs is renowned for his enduring contributions to angling literature through two iconic works: "Steelhead Fly Fishing and Flies" and "Steelhead Fly Fishing." Additionally, he penned the pioneering "Bluewater Fly Fishing," the sole publication encompassing all significant offshore gamefish species and their capture on the fly.
For twelve years, Trey was the exclusive fly fishing charter master within San Diego's extensive long-range fly fishing fleet. Over thirty charters witnessed his orchestrations, witnessing the mesmerizing spectacle of over a thousand striped marlins ensnared by flies. Among his extensive portfolio of fly fishing world records, he has notched triumphs in categories like wahoo, striped marlin, and black marlin. Billfish of various types, including Pacific sailfish (surpassing 80 in number), Atlantic sailfish, and white marlin, has succumbed to his fly-casting prowess.
While his accomplishments span diverse piscatorial realms, Trey's heart has always been captivated by the allure of steelhead. He finds himself engrossed in guiding and hosting fly fishers along the lower Quinault River under the banner of "The Evening Hatch." As the seasons transition to summer and fall, "Steelhead Ranch" beckons, where he continues to host and guide fly fishers for the summer-run steelhead of the Klickitat River.
