FLY DESIGNER

Todd Smith

Born in 1973 within the vicinity of Idaho Falls, Todd's journey led him to Boise at a tender age, a place he has called home ever since. His introduction to the world of fly tying transpired at the age of 11, an endeavor that swiftly morphed into a commercial pursuit within the same year. With an autodidactic approach, he navigated his unique course, crafting his techniques and cultivating a distinctive style that naturally steered him towards designing his own fly patterns.

Immersing himself in the art of fly tying, Todd harbors a penchant for natural materials, recognizing them as paramount in imbuing his creations with life-like qualities. Among the materials that resonate profoundly with him, C.D.C. (Cul de Canard) stands out as a potent resource for infusing flies with captivating realism. A former steward of The Riverkeeper Fly Shop, his tireless dedication to his craft endures, exemplified by his ongoing production of over 2,500 meticulously crafted flies each year.
