FLY DESIGNER
Rich McElligott & Jesse Riding
Rich McElligott
Over two decades ago, Rich transitioned from spinning gear to the captivating world of fly fishing. He remains a vibrant participant in various outdoor organizations, including the Shabbona Lake Sportsman's Club, the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance, and the St. James Knights of Columbus. His tying endeavors predominantly focus on synthetic materials, particularly for pursuing species like Smallmouth Bass, substantial Bluegills, and Crappie. Nestled in Lee, Illinois, Rich shares his life with his wife, Trudy. Together, they are parents to three daughters and proud grandparents of three young anglers who share their passion for fishing.
Jesse Riding
Jesse Riding, son of the illustrious fly designer and manufacturer Rainy Riding, was immersed in flies and fly tying from an early age. Growing up, he spent countless hours observing his mother, Rainy, as she meticulously crafted flies. His journey in fly tying began at the age of 4 when he started experimenting with his variations. Amid his formative years and beyond, Jesse honed his fly-tying skills and assisted customers in the fly shop, thus kindling his profound connection with the fly-fishing industry.
With a career spanning over 35 years, Jesse remains deeply involved in fly tying. His dedication is unwavering, as he dedicates himself to tying flies daily, crafting new patterns to be tested on the waters in the coming days. Jesse's passion extends to his personal tying spaces – two stations at home to accommodate his creative bursts without displacing his children from their vise and another at work, ensuring he can swiftly turn his ideas into tangible fly designs.
Presently serving as Co-Owner and President of Rainy's® Flies & Supplies, Jesse divides his time between headquarters and the distribution warehouse in Logan, Utah. His responsibilities range from sales operations to coordinating with dealers, sales representatives, and fellow fly designers and engaging in fishing escapades across the globe. With an impressive portfolio, Jesse has introduced over 60 distinct fly designs to the market, each available through Rainy's® Flies, a testament to his ceaseless creativity and innovation.
