FLY DESIGNER
Larry Larsen
Born in 1969 along the scenic banks of the Snake River in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Larry's affinity for fishing took root at an early age, setting the stage for his lifelong passion for angling. At around 14 years old, he stumbled upon the captivating world of fly fishing, a discovery that would shape his journey in the years to come. It was during the early 1980s, when his family operated a craft and ceramic shop from their home, that Larry's curiosity in fly tying was ignited.
Larry's guiding odyssey commenced in 1993, primarily focused on the renowned Missouri River. Over time, his expertise and love for the craft led him to the Lodge at Palisades Creek, where he extended his guiding prowess to the enticing waters of the South Fork of the Snake River by 1998. Guiding on these renowned yet heavily-fished waters instilled in him a passion for developing novel and effective fly patterns, not only for himself but also for fellow guides traversing the Western trout haven.
Amidst his guiding endeavors, Larry ventured back to the Missouri River and even embarked on an expedition downstream to his cherished childhood haunt, the Main Snake River. By 2004, his comprehensive understanding of fly fishing and tying prompted him to share his knowledge with others by teaching accredited courses through Idaho State University's PE program.
The distinct aquatic landscapes and fish species of Southeastern Idaho fueled Larry's creativity, spurring him to establish a custom fly shop right on his property in Pocatello, Idaho in 2012. This haven for angling enthusiasts offers a trove of meticulously crafted flies and materials, all handcrafted by Larry himself. The shop also hosts weekly tying classes and demonstrations, fostering a community of like-minded individuals eager to explore the world of fly fishing.
Through the confluence of his early river experiences, guiding ventures, innovative fly patterns, and commitment to education, Larry has woven a rich tapestry of fly fishing expertise that resonates with anglers of all levels in his beloved Idaho and beyond.
