FLY DESIGNER
Jeff Ward
Jeff's upbringing was graced by a father who instilled a love for fishing. Their family vacations in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota became cherished memories of reeling in bass, northern pike, walleyes, and perch. Over four decades ago, in his early teens, he delved into the world of fly fishing along the trout streams of northern Maryland. Fly tying swiftly followed, although materials were scarce, often imitating existing patterns.
In 1975, Jeff relocated to Melbourne, Florida, a place embraced by many aquatic environments. His proximity to Stick Marsh/Farm 13, the headwaters of the St. Johns River, the Indian and Banana Rivers, Mosquito Lagoon, pristine beaches, and Sebastian Inlet has proven to be a boon. The region's year-round temperate climate allows him to indulge in fishing whenever he desires, with freshwater angling holding a special place in his heart.
Participating in Harry Goode's Fly Shop fly tying club convening monthly, Jeff has gained new techniques from accomplished redfish guides. These lessons have significantly elevated both his fishing and tying skills. The solitude he finds while fishing feels akin to a sacred sanctuary, offering a spiritual connection.
