FLY DESIGNER
Bucky Liebig
Bucky’s influential beginnings started along the shores of Lake Superior, having the
expansive Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness
as his introduction into the outdoors. From Brook Trout in alder covered streams to
Walleye and Bass in tannin-stained lakes, fishing, especially fly fishing, has been a
presence in his life since the start.
His curiosity with nature and a willingness to tinker with baits, made fly tying a natural
progression. Bucky’s approach to fly tying has always been a willingness to push
boundaries, blurring the lines between conventional and fly. Brook Trout were the
beginning passion for him but Steelhead, Muskie and the Smallmouth of the upper
Mississippi, garner most of his attention these days on the water and at the vise.
