FLY DESIGNER
Bob Newman
Bob's voyage into the realm of fly fishing and fly tying commenced in 1965, a time when he turned to books in the local library to grasp the craft. Rube Cross and Frank Steel emerged as his guiding voices, shaping his early tying techniques. Those days were marked by local fishing escapades and backpacking ventures in and around Olympic National Park. With the passage of time, Bob's fishing horizons broadened, encompassing a diverse array of waters and accumulating a wealth of tying insights.
Over three decades ago, Bob embarked on a journey of sharing his expertise. He initiated demonstration tying and fly tying instruction, participating in renowned events like the International Sportsman's Exposition and various Fly Tying Expos across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. His exploration extended to numerous waters in the Northwest, Alaska, as well as across the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta.
Parallel to his passion, Bob's professional journey flourished. For over three decades, he has lent his tying prowess to local shops, enriching their offerings while concurrently pursuing a career as a Fish Biologist. His dedication and influence within the fly tying community were magnified in 2013 when he was inducted into the Washington Council of FFF Fly Tyers Hall of Fame. This prestigious recognition stands as a testament to his enduring commitment to the craft and his invaluable contributions.
