SOUTHERN ESCAPE: Reflections
When the warmth of summer gives way to colder weather don’t put the fly rods away. The holiday season comes to cheer us up, but soon enough the New Year beacons new fishing opportunities. Don’t let the winter doldrums get you down. Head South to the warm welcoming waters of the Caribbean. You’ll be greeted by tailing Bonefish, rolling Tarpon, and the ever elusive Permit.
One of my favorite locations is the Ambergris Caye. Being the second largest barrier reef in the world and only hours from the Southern U.S. border, paradise awaits you there when winter sets in.
When you finally land upon feeding fish you’ll want to make sure you have two important pieces of the puzzle with you: the proper fly and the proper presentation (practice). Those are the only two variables the fish care about and so should you! Rainy’s Flies offers every pattern needed to successfully fool your favorite flats species. Whether it be a Mason’s Ceviche Fly for Bonefish, an Avalon Fly for Permit or a Tarpon Bunny for the silver king, Rainy’s has you covered. The rest is up to you!
So if you’re looking to leave the cold behind, ring in the new year to the sound of a bent rod and screaming reel or maybe just to get away…look no further than a visit to our friendly Caribbean neighbors, a proper cast, and a fly box full of Rainy’s flies!
