Dean Finnerty began tying flies and fly fishing in grade school (nearly 40 years ago). His primary focus has always been steelhead. He's been a fly fishing guide since his teenage years when he worked at a sporting goods store in his home town of Gresham, Oregon. Back in those days he guided on the Sandy River, Clackamas River and Salmon River. He's also spent time guiding on the Deschutes River, and numerous coastal rivers. Over the past ten years he's been guiding on the world famous fly water section of the North Umpqua river east of Roseburg, Oregon. He's also guide trout trips on the McKenzie River, salmon trips on the Elk and Sixes river and smallmouth bass trips on the mainstem Umpqua River. He's also a regular contributor to several regional and national fly fishing publications including Salmon,Trout Steelheader Magazine, Salmon-Steelhead Journal, NorthwestFly Fishing Magazine, American Angler and Washington-Oregon Fish and Game Magazine. His outdoor photography depicting various fly fishing scenes have also been published in numerous fly fishing publications and internet magazines including Catch Magazine. He's a seminar speaker on fly fishing topics at numerous outdoor show venues in Oregon and Washington as well as numerous fly fishing clubs throughout the pacific northwest.
